Hollywood Junior and Infant School
Stimulating contexts which will encourage discussion and active involvement in learning.
Willie MaGill, Maths Tutor, University of Glasgow

We are using the large book (Giant Discussion Book) for groups in numeracy and the children are really enjoying and interacting with it.

Plumpton Primary

Our Numeracy levels have increased because we have a wide variety of resources and ideas to help teach this one concept without the children getting bored.

We value the following 5 aspects most about Kingscourt / McGraw-Hill:

  1. Features of the product – visual, stories are great, lesson plans
  2. Support material is great and also Gay Richardson’s willingness to show the resources and her enthusiasm.
  3. Supports other areas of the school curriculum, not just maths. There is the literacy link and humanities.
  4. Makes maths teaching exciting for both children and teachers. Children don’t realise that it is maths – the lesson when everybody groaned and turned their nose up.
  5. Teachers now don’t have planning for maths and therefore MLP is very welcome.
We have been using Kingscourt / McGraw-Hill resources for 2 years now. We chose Kingscourt / McGraw-Hill because of the resources themselves and the teacher’s support material / resources books. Our local representative phoned up and showed the materials to our staff on an inset day.

The 5 best things about the resources are:

  1. Very visual. They help children with concepts / understanding.
  2. Stories. Children enjoy them and want to hear them again.
  3. Progression. Using the story book, which enables concepts to be taught again in different years using a different book.
  4. Story Book keeps the group focused around the page being used. The clues on the page really help the children.
  5. The little version of the Story Book can be used in the lesson and for differentiated activity but using same resource.
