Literacy Links Plus

A guided reading programme, which is book banded and Reading Recovery levelled which is available to purchase as a whole scheme or separately as supplemental resources to your current scheme. (264 titles in total)

Story Chest

Stage 1 has 14 sets of books divided into 2 levels – Get-Ready and Ready-Set-Go.

  • Get-Ready books are designed as guided and independent resources for emergent and early readers. They contain key words and predictable text, utilising rhyme, repetition, and supportive illustrations.
  • Ready-Set-Go is designed to be read after the Get-Ready books. The degree of difficulty increases slightly throughout the range. They include plays, instructions and non-fiction.

Recommended for Reading Recovery due to their very careful progression. These have been Reading Recovery levelled by the National Reading Recovery Network at the Institute of Education.

Rainbow Reading

 A programme for struggling readers with audio-assisted intervention that will accelerate reading achievement in students currently reading below their chronological age. This assessment-driven, research-based programme has been proven to increase reading achievement, build reading fluency, comprehension and boost success.

  • Carefully levelled books and CDs – 7 levels (titles in lower levels are matched to Reading Recovery levels)
  • Teaching manual – easy to implement, can be monitored and assessed by teaching assistants
  • Assessment – running record sheets
  • Text Sequencing, Cloze and Writing activities with Word Search and Dice Game for each title

Reading RecoveryReading Recovery

Reading Recovery is an early intervention programme which provides intensive, individual help for children who, after a year of schooling, have not responded to classroom teaching in reading and writing.

The main aim is to boost the reading and writing skills of the lowest -achieving children to average levels for their chronological age.

Catch Up

The Catch Up Programme is a structured one-to-one literacy intervention for struggling readers, that centres on a 10-15 minute sessions delivered twice a week, targeted to the needs of the individual. It is grounded in rigorous academic research, proven in schools across the UK, and very inexpensive.

Catch Up, a not-for-profit charity, provides comprehensive training packages for organisations and staff, to support the management and delivery of the Catch Up Programme; and ongoing support, through the Catch Up Community, for those who deliver the Catch Up Programme to
struggling readers.

Over 500 of the titles Catch Up uses are levelled from Kingscourt / McGraw-Hill.

Every Child a Reader Every Child A Reader

Every Child A Reader is a unique collaboration between charitable trusts, the business sector , the Institute of Education and government. It aims to show that, with the right resources, it is possible to overcome the literacy difficulties that blight so many children's lives.

The initiative is funding highly-skilled Reading Recovery teachers in inner-city schools, to provide intensive help to children most in need.
