Makes activities for teachers

MatchWord is a brilliant new teaching tool for generating literacy activities that match learning objectives to the needs of children.

MatchWord contains over 19,000 words, over 500 pictures and 175 activities.

Words can be sorted by phonemes, letter patterns, number of syllables, word patterns, topics and learning objectives.

MatchWord's extraordinary flexibility allows teachers to create a huge range of resources, making this software invaluable for teachers from Foundation into Key Stage 3.

MatchWord allows you to efficiently and accurately produce differentiated resources for your pupils to work on in the classroom and at home.

These resources can be used to teach:

MatchWord has 5 different areas from which you can create Teaching Activities:

Pictures, Letters, Words, Sentences, Activities.

Search the picture list alphabetically or by types of lists, such as Topics, Number of Phonemes, Number of Syllables, Blends/Digraphs, Long Vowels and Short Vowels.

These activities help develop skills such as phonological awareness, sound discrimination, vocabulary building and critical thinking.

Create images for children to sort, match and classify.

Letters section (enlarge)

Activities include sorting and matching letters, practising sound-letter associations, working with specific consonants, vowels, spelling patterns and word families.

Select vowel and/or consonant combinations, families/endings, lower and upper case, numbers and punctuation.

Words section (enlarge)

This highly versatile section allows you to choose words by sound or by spelling, by number of letters, syllable count and word pattern (e.g. by affixes, spelling or rhyming patterns).

You can also work in Spanish, or even combine Spanish and English words for Spanish classes.

Activities section (enlarge)

This section is a resource for teachers.

It contains over one hundred lesson plans and activity ideas. It is organised by skill as well as by materials used, to make it easier to find the lesson that meets the needs of your class.

There is also a Teacher Tricks and Tools category, which includes classroom management and organisation skills.
